We are proud to present project SAFE SPACES/101049592/Erasmus+, a transformative initiative designed to address the urgent needs of underage migrants and unaccompanied refugees across Europe and beyond. With a holistic and comprehensive approach, this project is dedicated to fostering inclusion, providing vital support, and empowering young people to achieve their full potential.

What Is the SAFE SPACES Project?

The SAFE SPACES initiative focuses on unaccompanied refugeesโ€”children and young adults aged 15 to 25โ€”who have arrived in European Union Member States without a legally responsible adult or who lose such accompaniment after their arrival. These young individuals are among the most vulnerable, often facing barriers to safety, education, and social integration.

Through this project, we aim to create inclusive, empowering environments where young refugees can access the resources, support, and opportunities they need to build brighter futures.

Key Objectives of SAFE SPACES:

  • Comprehensive Support: Addressing the critical areas of education, mental health, legal assistance, social integration, and employment to support unaccompanied minors.
  • Community Building: Promoting equality, inclusion, and shared learning to create welcoming and empowering environments for displaced youth.
  • Innovation and Collaboration: Working with partners from Bulgaria, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, Norway, and Mexico to develop best practices and methodologies tailored to the unique needs of these young people.

How We Are Making an Impact

The project began with a successful kickoff meeting where partners discussed strategies to implement impactful activities and methodologies. Focus groups were conducted with unaccompanied minors and professionals in participating countries, identifying key challenges and opportunities for change.

The insights gathered are guiding the development of tools, practices, and resources to address issues such as language barriers, access to education, and pathways to employment, all while fostering a sense of belonging and security for these young individuals.
